Several key economic indicators reported recently imply that the global economy may be beginning to emerge from one of the deepest and longest recessions since World War II. As a result of exceptional measures taken by governments and monetary authorities, financial conditions in many countries and industries have improved, and recent data suggest that economic activity is picking up by varying degrees. However, the massive monetary and fiscal stimulus introduced in many developed and emerging economies have raised the risks of inflation over the medium term

STILL POTENTIAL IN EQUITIES
The world economy continues to heal, with an impressive upturn in developed markets. Indexes of manufacturing and services activity suggest that the developed world may be emerging from recession. World trade, while not back to pre-crisis levels, has been improving steadily. While we do not anticipate a double-dip recession in the west, we believe that a 'v'-shaped economic recovery is also unlikely.

GROWTH BACK ON THE AGENDA
Predictions of economic growth have been picking up fast. In its latest World Economic Forecast report, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) forecasts that world growth could reach 3.1% in 2010, 1.2 percentage points more than it forecast in April. In the U.S., the IMF believes growth could come in at 1.5% next year instead of its April forecast of zero.
